Q. Why on earth would I elope?
A. Firstly – cost. The average Australian wedding now costs around $65,482. Yikes. Props to you, if that’s your thing (hey, we love a shindig!), but with the rising costs of, well everything, not everyone can fork out that kind of money. Besides, small wedding = hellooooo honeymoon.
Secondly – privacy. A lot of couples are now choosing to be married in smaller more private ceremonies, and having a party later on. We promise you’ll have ample photos to share with your family and friends.
In short – just because you’re choosing to have a smaller ceremony, doesn’t mean it can’t be A-MAZING.
Q. Okay great – but why would I elope to Brisbane?
A. Hmmm… great weather all year round – tick. Beautiful locations in and around the city (and even better ones within a 1.5 hour drive) – tick. It’s generally uncrowded. The city and inner suburbs are brimming with hidden laneways, bars (so many bars!) and cute murals. There are no shortage of stunning parks and buildings with classic architecture. Brisbane has one of the nicest registry offices we’ve seen too. Wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows with views over the city and Mt Coot-tha? Yes please. Tick, tick, tick.
We promise – Brisbane’s a little cooler than you might think.
Q. How easy is it to elope in Brisbane?
A. You can essentially have an elopement ceremony more or less anywhere in and around Brisbane, unless it’s in a designated permit area which you need to book for exclusive use. That means you have a myriad of possibilities available to you.
Some of our favourite no cost venues include:
– Cedar Creek (Samford)
– The Lost World / Christmas Creek, Scenic Rim
If you’re in the market for something a little edgier, we’re down for it. Let’s talk.
Q. Do you photograph Brisbane Registry Office Weddings?
Sure do. The current costs for a 30-minute ceremony at the registry (as of Feb 2020) are:
– Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9.30am–4.00pm – $350
– Friday, 5.30pm–8.00pm – $600
– Saturday, 9.30am–4.00pm – $455
– Saturday, 4.30pm–7.00pm – $600
We recommend you aim for a ceremony that finishes approximately 2 hours before sunset, to make sure we get the best light for photos. Also, just keep in mind there is no photography permitted on the ground floor, as it’s home to the Commonwealth Bank (maybe mention to any guests or witnesses that may be coming with you). It’s worth getting there a little earlier and familiarising yourself with the Level 32 elevators as Brisbane Registry Office run to a pretty tight schedule.
You have a choice of two ceremony rooms, depending on guests and bookings. Each have a different vibe, but still have stunning views and tons of natural light (which we love!). You can choose your own music, and you have a small window to take photos in their stunning foyer. We’d recommend having any group / portrait shots in the nearby park however, as often there is another booking directly after.
The staff and celebrants are warm and welcoming, and it’s generally a really beautiful place to have a low-key wedding or elopement. We’re huge fans.
Q. Can we book a package but use the Registry for our ceremony?
A. Sure. A surcharge will apply for ceremonies on Friday night and Saturday however.
Q. Can you recommend locations?
A. So many. Tell us the vibe you’re looking for and we’ll make it happen. From the festoon lights and coloured walls of Fish Lane, to the lush greenery of the Botanic Gardens/Roma Street Parklands, Southbank, Riverside, City Cats – and a whole bunch of other secret laneways and locations we keep hidden up our sleeve (P.S Fortitude Valley and West End are full of them). We also like a good speakeasy bar – we’ll even buy you a drink.
Q. Can you recommend wedding florists and makeup artists?
A. We have a small group of recommended vendors that we’d be only too happy to introduce you to. Just let us know what you’re after.
Q. What do you consider an ‘elopement’? Can I bring my friends?
A. Ha. We get this question a lot. We consider an elopement to be two people. Maybe with two witnesses. Depending on location, we can probably accommodate up to 8 (including couple). Anything larger and you’re probably going to need a permit (we can point you in the right direction there), and a tailored package. Just hit us up and we’ll work something out.
Q. Can you witness our ceremony?
A. We’d be honoured to! Just let us know before time.
Q. How far out from my date can I book you?
A. According to Australian law, you need to register your date at least one month prior to getting married, so as soon as you know when you’d like to do it, get in touch with us so we can compare schedules and tee you up with either Jess or Candice straight away to get the legals rolling.
If you’re just booking photography, then it depends on our schedule. Generally, we book 3-4 months out. As we travel a lot, we don’t book elopements over a year away, however we will consider larger wedding dates. Just ask us and we’ll see what we can do for you.
Q. What’s the booking process?
A. Generally we chat a bit via email about your plans, and our style of elopement photography (which we assume you’ve already seen on our website/socials) and once we’re all on the same page and happy to proceed, we ask for a 50% deposit to secure the booking with the remainder due 2 weeks before the date. Bookings are non-refundable, although are transferable. We then send out a contract, and begin discussing your location ideas and timelines.
Q. How long does it take to get our photos back?
A. We say up to 4 weeks, but generally it’s around 2 – depending on how busy we are. We are hand editing each image, and we want to make sure we get it right for you.
Q. Do you charge a travel fee?
A. We include the Greater Brisbane, Sunshine and Gold Coast in our fees. Anything beyond that, we’re happy to discuss.
Q. Do you travel interstate/overseas?
A. The short answer is yes. The long answer is hell yes. Let us know your plans and we’ll give you a travel quote (all travel arrangements are booked by us, unless otherwise discussed).
Q. We’re not from Australia but want to get married there. Can we?
A. Sure can. And why not – Australia is beautiful! Our celebrants are only too happy to provide you with the information that you’ll need.
Q. Do you offer same-sex weddings?
A. Definitely. No question at all.
Q. Can we print the digital files?
A. Sure can. We make sure that you get each in high and web resolution, so you can print and share them. We’ll even give you recommendations about where to get them printed for the most professional quality.
Q. Do you offer prints/albums/USBs etc?
A. Absolutely. All bookings come with a 20% discount. After the event, we can sit down and discuss what kind of wall art or albums you’re after.
Q. Will Erica be shooting my elopement/wedding?
A. Absolutely. Sometimes she’ll bring an assistant to carry gear/second shoot, but if you’d prefer to keep it low key and one photographer, just let us know. She’ll just have to carry her own damn gear.
Q. Can you assist us with planning the timeline?
A. For sure. That’s our job – we know how to get the best out of light at certain times and locations. P.S It helps to book us first so we can be involved from the start!
Q. Can you point me in the direction of your Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coat elopement packages?
A. Sure thing. Fill out your details at the bottom of the page, we’ll send you a link to our current rates. We can tell you this however – we’ve made it so you can elope for well under $2000 (including a ceremony, witnesses (if needed) and all photography). Seriously.
